NATIVE ARTS AND FASHION ACADEMY

Native Arts and Fashion Academy has been formed with a vision to promote arts , culture and fashion in PNG in 2007. Till now NAFA has been participated and represented PNG talents nationally and internationally since 2017 in various cultural events.

Fashion is an exclusive industry around the world. Native Arts and fashion Academy is an institution to train fashion models and fashion designers. It provides Certificate Course in Model Training and Fashion Designing at the moment. NAFA further also enables Fashion Designers and Models to represent Papua New Guinea in various world platforms including London Pacific Fashion Week (LPFW), Royal Polynesian Fashion Week (RPFW), and so on. It also trains models who participate in the various National fashion agencies like PNG Fashion and Design Week, PNG Fashion Week, Miss World PNG, etc.

In 2019 on the 30th of November, Native Arts and Fashion Academy hosted its first fashion platform in the “NAFA NIGHT 2019” at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex. It was during that time when all NAFA students presented what they have learned during two years of study under NAFA’s well-disciplined environment. The show was attended by Papua New Guineas Prime Minister Hon. James Marape and many other delegates.

“The NAFA NIGHT Show” was a recap of what students has been studying. It started with Music Masters of PNG musical jam, followed by Paradise Dance Academy with PNG’s contemporary and Bollywood Dance performances, Gejah Academy of multiple martial Arts with Taekwondo and boxing demonstration and the highlight of the show was the fashion show that presents NAFA Collections from emerging designers; which was displayed by NAFA trained models.

During the period of 2020 to 2022 NAFA has participated at London Pacific Fashion Week where PNG TALENTS were promoted internationally in the areas of fashion designing particularly crocheted and knitted garments.

London Pacific fashion week (LPFW) was established in October 2012 LPFW events has continued as a regular fashion event in the United Kingdom promoting established pacific fashion designers. A champion of pacific design, Art and Culture LPFW act as platform for designers living and working in the pacific to engage with the fashion industry and represents them exclusively in the United Kingdom. To do this, a select number of fashion designers from the pacific Travel to London every February and September for LPFW, Which coincides with London fashion Week, both to promote their brands and gain further experience in the global fashion world. While in a London, they are committed to a series of events, see below, allowing the breadth of their work to be showcased to a wide and diverse audience.

NAFA has recently signed a MOU with National Cultural Commission to promote the film industry in PNG along with National Film Institute. This will encourage PNG TALENTS in the field of film making where by they can get a chance to be at Oscar Academy Awards through selection process facilitated by PNG OSCAR Selection Committee

This is yet another milestone achievement by the National Cultural Commission in partnership with the Native Arts and Fashion Academy (NAFA). The affiliation with the Oscar Awards means that Papua New Guineans can now submit its films of various categories for consideration of their excellence awards, more specifically for the international Feature Film category thereby paving a way forward to blossoming of another big industry in Papua New Guinea.
